It’s Christmas season! And there is no better place to be than Lafayette during the holiday season. There are festive happenings all across the city and surrounding areas to keep you and your family entertained during this special time of year.
Here are four family-friendly events in Lafayette that you won’t want to miss.
Old Time Winter Family Day at Vermilionville
From 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m on December 10th – December 21st, Vermilionville is putting on its annual Old Time Christmas where visitors can tour the structures which will bring to life the holiday traditions of old.
On one special day, December 14, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., the village will be hosting Old Time Winter Family Day. During this event, artisans will demonstrate how to make holiday items, such as candles, soap, and Victorian paper ornaments, the same way they traditionally did from 1765-1890. Papa Noel (the French Santa Claus) will be there and kids will be able to write letters to him and seal those letters with wax. Every half hour of the day, there will be a reading of The Night Before Christmas.
There will also be live music, food, arts and crafts, and Native American storytelling to bring everyone Christmas joy!
Admission is $5 for ages 4 and up.
An Acadiana Christmas Night
Join the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra (ASO) at the Heymann Performing Arts Center on December 19 at 7:00 p.m. to listen to your favorite songs of the season during the production of An Acadiana Christmas Night. This family-friendly event will appeal to people of all ages, with performances by the ASO, Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, the Acadiana Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Chorale des Amis.
Tickets start at $25 for a night of Christmas music, with an Acadiana twist, you won’t soon forget.
Downtown Candlelight Christmas
On Thursday, December 19, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., head to Parc International in Downtown Lafayette to enjoy a Downtown Candlelight Christmas. The whole family will enjoy Christmas readings, including the story of the first Christmas, and traditional Christmas carols in the North Pole of Downtown Lafayette.
Admission is free and includes candles and hot chocolate. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for seating for this festive event.

The Real Story of Christmas presented by Crossroads Church
The Real Story of Christmas is a Broadway-style stage production in which Santa and Mrs. Claus direct a retelling of traditional Christmas stories including Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, The Night Before Christmas, and The Cajun Twelve Days of Christmas.
At the end of the production, the real story of Christmas is shared with a nativity scene that includes live camels and sheep. Following the performance, there will be pictures with Santa and the characters from the show.
Admission is free for all of the performances at Crossroads Church on December 12-13 at 7:00 p.m.; December 14 at 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.; and December 15 at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.
