It’s Festival time! Each April, downtown Lafayette hosts Festival International de Louisiane, an international music and arts festival that brings performers and visitors from around the world to our great city to celebrate various cultures, emphasizing Acadiana’s Francophone culture.
The 2018 event is April 25 – 29. There is so much to see and so much to do, and we encourage everyone to attend.
Need motivation? Here are just a few reasons why people love Festival International.
It’s Free
Festival International has always been, and strives to always be, a free event that is open to the general public, relying on the support of businesses and individuals to fund this great event. Attendees can also help support the Festival by enhancing their Festival experience through merchandise and various passes for purchase, such as front row access, clean and air conditioned restrooms and express drink lines.
That this event can offer so many different experiences at no cost to attendees is a testament to the support of the community and the quality of the Festival.
It’s Family-Friendly
Attending Festival International is a great way to spend time together as a family. The Festival is a kid-friendly event that encourages families to come out together. Parents can bring in strollers, chairs, blankets, snacks, toys – everything they might need to keep the little ones happy and occupied.
Scenes des Jeunes is an area set up specifically for kids on the grounds of Cathedral Carmel School, and is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. during Festival. Activities include arts and crafts stations, face painting, food, music, dancing and restrooms. This is a great space for your kids to run around and enjoy their time at Festival.
The Atmosphere
No other festival tops the atmosphere of Festival International de Louisiane. People from around the world and from different cultures mingle with locals to create a vibrant, celebratory atmosphere. The music and performances are constantly going, fueling the excitement.
Local restaurants serve their signature dishes that give visitors and locals alike a food experience unique to south Louisiana. And, there are no shortage of opportunities to enjoy both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the Festival.
If you are in need of one of these beverages on Friday night of the Festival, stop by the beverage booth next to the Scene TV5Monde stage (the big stage), where you will find us serving drinks from 7 – 10:30 p.m. We would be happy to see you!
The Performances
Festival International is a celebration of cultures, and it brings together musicians, performers and artists from around the globe to give attendees unique access to their art. This year, Festival has musicians from 21 different countries! Street performers can be seen at random times and places throughout the Festival, and these are performances not to be missed.
