Most Popular Home Improvement Projects for 2022

By Paul Gardner | Industry Topics | Comments are Closed | 8 March, 2022 | 0

The pandemic forced people to spend more time indoors at home over the last couple of years. As a result, many took on home improvement projects. That trend looks to continue in 2022. Here are some of the most popular home improvement projects for this year.

Home Offices

The number of people working from home grew exponentially during the pandemic. As a result, they had to find office spaces at home in which to work. For many, that was any spare room or nook they could find such as the kitchen counter or the dining room table. Improving upon this is a priority this year and people will find ways to create a dedicated home office, such as turning the guest bedroom into an office or creating desk space in a spare room.

Outdoor Spaces

Outdoor entertaining became one of the only ways to socialize during the pandemic. As a result, people invested in building better outdoor spaces. That trend will continue through 2022 as homeowners will look to create seamless living spaces between the inside and outside of the house. Patios, decks, terraces, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, pools, and seating areas all are part of this home improvement trend to make outdoor spaces more vibrant and comfortable.

Mudrooms or Transitional Rooms

Known as a “drop zone,” mudrooms/transitional rooms are growing in popularity. These are essentially dedicated rooms that help residents transition from outside to inside. They often contain storage space for shoes and coats, washing stations for pets, showers, landing spots for packages or groceries, laundry equipment to immediately put heavily-soiled clothing washing, and charging stations for tools and electronics.

Windows, Doors, and Glass Walls

Homeowners are also replacing old windows and doors, installing skylights, and glazing walls in an effort to bring the outdoors in. The trend seems to emphasize the idea that the more glass, the better, with some homeowners choosing to install floor-to-ceiling windows and garage-door style roll-up windows to give them as much of a view of the outside as possible.

Sustainable Design

Homeowners are also embarking on eco-friendly and energy-efficient improvements to their homes. Bamboo and cork flooring, recycled steel siding, smart lighting, HVAC purification systems, and solar panels are all changes or improvements sustainability-minded homeowners are implementing this year.

Kitchen Redesigns

A side effect of spending more time at home is that more people are cooking. Thus, kitchen remodels are on the rise. Opening up the space, going bold on kitchen cabinet colors, changing out countertops for more durable surfaces, installing new appliances, and building bigger or multiple islands are popular improvement choices that are transforming kitchens.

Bathroom Upgrades

Many homeowners are upgrading their bathrooms to make them more open and spacious. Homeowners are installing high-end fixtures, walk-in showers, deep vessel sinks, touchless faucets, heated floors, and built-in storage units in cabinets to give their bathrooms a more luxurious yet practical feel.

These are some of the top home improvement projects going into 2022 as homeowners will still be spending larger amounts of time at home, formulating new design ideas and tackling improvement projects they have been putting off.
